Mr. Nelson Daughtry, 89, a resident of Greenville, AL passed away quietly at his home Monday, September 9, 2019. The funeral service will be Friday, September 13, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. At Walnut Street Church of Christ with Minister Charles Box officiating and Dunklin & Daniels Funeral Home directing. Burial will follow at Magnolia Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, September 12, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. Until 7:00 p.m. At Dunklin & Daniels Funeral Home. The family will also receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service at Walnut Street Church of Christ.
Mr. Daughtry was preceded in death by his parents, Minnie Lee (Money) and John T. (Jack) Daughtry; sister, Lucille Greene and grandson, Nelson Reid Daughtry. He is survived by his wife of sixty-nine years, Nell Law Daughtry; brother, William H. (Bill) Daughtry; daughter, Jean Daughtry Game (Clifford); son, John F. (Freddie) Daughtry (Linda); grandchildren, Rachel Game Wang (Nick), Lee Game, Sarah Game Nelson (Jake), Emily Daughtry Crawford (Lee) and John F. (Jack) Daughtry (Mallorie); great-grandchildren, Heath, Robert (Bo) and Lilly Crawford, Jackson, Deagan and Thomas K. (TK) Daughtry, Theodore T. (Teddy) Wang, many nieces and nephews and special friend Retha Hilliard.
Mr. Daughtry attended the Walnut St. Church of Christ, where he served as an elder for 29 years, he was employed by Alabama Power (beginning 1948) transferring to Greenville in 1965 where he worked as crew foreman until his retirement in 1994.
After retirement he enjoyed woodworking and baking, showering his friends with gifts of wood, including wooden bowls, hope chests and many other special items. He spent much time in the kitchen preparing baked goods for family and friends, including Dr. Kanu Patel and his staff.
Nelson, Pick, Gene, Ned, Eugene and Pop will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.The family wishes to thank Dr. Kanu Patel, his office staff, nurses and aids who took such excellent care of their loved one. Thanks to our church family for the love, visits and support. Thanks to Johnny Rudolph for helping in so many ways and also a special thank you to Norma Johnson for your knowledge, friendship, love and care.
